Hazy - Light and shadows at their best

I love the incredible light an early hazy morning gives you! And at a period like the end of year holidays, the empty streets provide an even greater experience!

Not being a very social person, walking through the Brussels Christmas Market ( called Winter Pleasures ) is a special pleasure. At this hour of the day, no crowd in the Sainte-Catherine area, only the first people walking to work and the street workers cleaning up the mess of the previous night. In the back of the picture, you can just distinguish the Great Wheel, drowned in the mist.

Leaving the market behind, I walked to the Brussel’s canal. The mist, combined with the lights of the growing traffic of cars, trams and bikes creates an interesting and eery atmosphere.

Finally, I thought the top of the creepy experience would be to go for a short walk in the quite empty Port of Brussels. It’s not active anymore and although the real estate projects are popping up all over the place, this side of the port is just a ghost town at this time of day. I hadn’t been here for some time so I was even more surprised to find this lonely tree, standing there in the middle of the concrete surroundings. And to add to the drama of the scene, it was slightly bent and didn’t look that happy to be there!
